Trail Log

I had the honor of designing branding for fine art photographer Gregory Crewdson and his newly launched Substack. Named after his discipline of hiking to a lake for inspiration, Trail Log is a look into Gregory's artistic process.

I depicted the artist himself, alone in nature with his camera and a broken down car, all framed inside an organic blue frame: a subtle nod to the lake.

I explored depicting more of the journey to the lake in an unused draft, but ultimately using the lake as a frame felt like the strongest choice. Stepping away from a literal depiction of a lake gives the image more mystery, as well.

Check out @CrewdsonStudio on Instagram to see his disquieting photos. They're like… the most gorgeous movie stills you've ever seen, set in small town America the moment before a zombie apocalypse.
